Out of the Blue is a dramatic monologue of a fictional trader who was inside the World Trade Centre during the catastrophic events of September 11, 2001. The long poem manages to stress the chaos and terror of the event while also chronicling a lessened level of hope as time ticks by. It’s worth having a copy whilst listening to the powerful delivery by the actor Rufus Sewell on YouTube. If teenage boys I taught can be moved by unspoken psychological tension, then anyone can.
