My favourite read of 2020!
In this beautifully translated novel, Mytting explores the ways which traumas of the Second World War can be passed down the generations. The narrative focuses on Edvard, a Norwegian farm boy with French heritage, whose life is cloaked in mystery. Perhaps surprisingly, the emotional core of this novel revolves around the figurative and literal possibilities of wood and trees. Some may be familiar with Mytting’s other notable work, Norwegian Wood, a non-fiction book about how Norwegians handle and work with wood.
